Up to 5,000 athletes will stay on board this cruise ship during the Asian Games
Organisers of next month’s Asian Games in Japan have told some athletes and officials to make their own accommodation arrangements after the number of participants exceeded the available capacity.
The Games, which will be held in the Nagoya and Aichi region from September 19 to October 4, were initially planned for about 15,000 athletes and officials.
However, the expected number has risen to nearly 17,000 following the inclusion of teqball and padel in the Games programme earlier this year.
As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, Nagoya Mayor and acting chairman of the local organising committee, Ichiro Hirosawa, said accommodating the increased number would be difficult because the Games are being operated on a limited budget.
