The Bulgarian state will finance the restoration of public infrastructure damaged by floods in the municipality of Strumyani, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said during a visit to the affected area.
Radev thanked the mayor, the regional governor, state institutions, volunteers and companies that have provided personnel and equipment to help deal with the aftermath of the heavy rainfall. He said teams from various institutions had been working on the ground since the first day of the disaster, with efforts focused on restoring water and electricity supplies, clearing streets and removing debris from homes.
"Restoring water supply, electricity supply, streets are being cleared, people's homes are being cleared," Radev said.
Work is also underway to restore traffic through Strumyani Station, while volunteers, the Bulgarian Red Cross and state institutions continue to assist residents. Radev said the government's presence in the area was intended to demonstrate that people affected by the disaster would receive state support.
"We are here to show Bulgarian citizens that the Bulgarian state will not abandon its citizens to the elements," he said.
