Wendat Nation Grand Chief Pierre Picard said the U.S. president “is attempting to eradicate our history” with his order to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”
The U.S. president’s order to rename Lake Ontario has cut deep for the Wendat Nation, whose ancestral language gave the lake its centuries-old name.
“Outraged, appalled, shocked: there are no other words to describe how I feel following President Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario ‘Lake America’,” said Grand Chief Pierre Picard of Wendat Nation in a statement.
