Almost half of respondents had no interest in OECD because they had no knowledge of it

As Thailand is lobbying for international support to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), almost half of the people in the country still have no idea what it is, a poll released on Friday showed.The survey, conducted by King Prajadhipok's Institute, found that only 2% of people knew about the Paris-based organisation, while 42% had never heard of it before. In between, about 20% were either uncertain or could not remember, about 19% knew the name but had only a sketchy understanding of it, and 17% had heard the name but did not know what it did.
Over 40% of those unaware of the OECD lived in the northern, northeastern and southern regions, while only 20% were Bangkokians, it added.
