An Australian volunteer veterinarian is spending a year as a specialist at the Animal Protection Society (APS) in Samoa.
Dr Tiaan Gobius stated that working at the APS requires innovative thinking on a daily basis.
The primary challenge for Dr Gobius and the APS team is maintaining adequate medicine and veterinary supplies.
"Stock shortages and long intervals between orders are a constant challenge. The clinic must maintain 6 to 8 weeks of stock to ensure supplies do not run out," Dr Gobius said.
He noted that managing a clinic in a remote location introduces frequent supply shortages, rendering each day an exercise in rapid problem-solving.
