The Animal Protection Society (APS) and Samoa Animal Welfare Association (SPAW) are preparing to take veterinary services to communities across Savai‘i in September.
The organisations said they were looking forward to extending their outreach programme to the island, where free and affordable veterinary services will be offered to pet owners. After completing the Savai‘i programme, the teams plan to hold further outreach clinics in villages along the south coast of Upolu.
The programme will provide animal health checks and desexing services while promoting responsible pet ownership and educating communities about animal welfare. The planned September outreach follows a week-long programme carried out in the Aleipata district in June.
APS Clinic Manager Leisha Ah Sang said the team worked into the evening on several clinic days to ensure animals brought to the venues received treatment. “There were times when the team was exhausted, but our love for the animals is what kept us going,” she said.
“Seeing the appreciation from families and knowing we were making a real difference to the health and welfare of their animals made every long day worthwhile.”
