Nvidia has agreed to acquire the AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, reports The Information, citing a person familiar with the deal. Nvidia and Hugging Face have not yet officially confirmed the purchase. It was reported earlier this week that Hugging Face is considering a sale.

Nvidia already invested in Hugging Face in 2023. Salesforce, Google, Amazon, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and IBM, among others, participated in the last publicly known funding round of $235 million. According to the Financial Times, Nvidia offered another $500 million at the end of 2025 at a valuation of $7 billion. The report states that Hugging Face rejected this because it did not want a single dominant investor who could exert too much influence on its decisions. It is not known why Hugging Face has now apparently agreed to a full sale.

Measured by the purchase price, Hugging Face’s revenue has so far been low: According to The Information, the annualized revenue was recently more than $150 million, about 50 percent higher than two months prior. At a presumed purchase price of $12.9 billion, Nvidia would roughly pay 80 times this annualized revenue.

Nvidia gains access to the open-source ecosystem

Hugging Face is a GitHub-like platform where developers and companies can publish, find, and further develop AI models and datasets. The company generates revenue through subscriptions as well as usage-based fees for computing power and storage.
