A US federal judge in Miami is weighing whether to grant bail to controversial online influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate as they fight extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face rape and human trafficking charges. The brothers have repeatedly denied all wrongdoing.
After hours of argument that at times grew tense, a hearing Thursday ended without a ruling from Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis, and the Tates were returned to jail.
The marathon hearing marked the first time the brothers had been seen in public since July, after nearly six weeks held in separate cells at the Federal Detention Center in Miami.
The Tates entered the courtroom in shackles and matching tan jail jumpsuits, surrounded by four US marshals. Both appeared disheveled, with longer hair and grown-out beards. Tristan winked at a friend seated in the courtroom gallery, who nodded back.
They both took the stand to testify on their own behalf – a move their attorney Joseph McBride described as “highly unusual.”
