BRASILIA, Brazil, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The Brazilian government has sued Discord for $97 million after failed negotiations over bringing the platform's features into compliance with Brazilian regulations.
Discord is an instant‑messaging and VoIP social platform in which users communicate through text, voice, video and shared media in private or community servers.
Brazil's Office of the Attorney General, known by its Portuguese acronym AGU, filed the civil lawsuit Tuesday after it said it identified serious failures in protections for minors and age verification on the platform.
The case gained prominence in July after the suicide of a 13-year-old girl linked to livestreams on the app, O Globo reported.
