The Udupi police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in five theft cases, and recovered foreign currency and other valuables, together worth ₹23.5 lakh, from the accused.The accused have been identified as Arun Achari, 43, of Parampalli and Kaushik, 19, of Tinkanidiyuru village, both in Udupi district.In a statement, the police said one Sanam filed a complaint at the Udupi Town Police Station stating that foreign currency and other valuables, worth over ₹2 lakh, were stolen from her house in Puttur village of Udupi taluk on August 11. A team led by sub-inspector Prakash arrested Achari and Kaushik on August 23. They were produced before jurisdictional court and were remanded in judicial custody.The police said the accused were involved in four housebreaking cases and one vehicle theft case reported between July and August. The accused took the stolen vehicles and targeted locked houses.The police recovered articles worth ₹23.5 lakh, which included ₹2 lakh worth foreign currency and 1.360 kg of silver articles worth ₹2.86 lakh.
