Minister for Housing and Urban Development B. Rajkumar on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the Geographic Information System (GIS) database project covering municipal assets in all 45 wards of Cuddalore Corporation. It is estimated to cost ₹26.40 lakh.According to a press note, the database is proposed to map properties, parks, waterbodies, drinking water connections, stormwater drains and components of the new underground sewerage scheme. The project is expected to help widen the tax and revenue bases, identify under-assessed properties, encroachments and unlicensed commercial establishments, and support flood-mitigation and drainage planning.The survey will use LIDAR, drone imagery and Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) technology to generate satellite images.Accompanied by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, the Minister also launched desilting of small and major canals within the jurisdiction of the Cuddalore Corporation, enhancing flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.Mr. Rajkumar also inaugurated completed projects, including Animal Birth Control Centre at Pachaiyankuppam built at a cost of ₹65 lakh, children’s library at Sorakalpattu, material recovery facility at Devanampattinam at a cost of ₹42.50 lakh among others.He also flagged off seven new buses and bus services of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.
