Dar es Salaam. Lawyers are divided over when Emmanuel Nchimbi ceased to be Tanzania’s Vice President after the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) expelled him from the party, two days after President Hassan accepted his resignation.
In his resignation letter, Dr Nchimbi said his decision would take effect on September 4, 2026, saying he had pledged to serve President Hassan and the country faithfully as her assistant, rather than a competitor.
“I am fully convinced that the President desires changes, hence my decision to fulfil my pledge,” he said.
