Stating that the Sagar Gangothri College of Education at Ullur in Sagar taluk has not held the recognition of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) since 2023-24, Kuvempu University has said it is left to the discretion of students whether to join the college for the BEd course. In a press release issued on Thursday, R. Thimmarayappa, Registrar (Evaluation) of Kuvempu University, said the college could not obtain affiliation with Kuvempu University for 2023-24 as it failed to submit its application within the stipulated time. The following year, it could not secure affiliation as it lacked NCTE recognition. Similarly, in the 2025-26 and 2026-27 academic years, the college did not take part in the affiliation process by applying through the UUCMS portal. The college obtained permission to admit students and conduct examinations following an interim order of the Karnataka High Court, allowing the college and its students to proceed subject to the court’s final order. The court has clearly stated that neither the petitioner-institution nor the students can claim any equity in the matter, if the writ petition eventually was dismissed.A B.Ed. degree obtained from a college without NCTE recognition would carry no value. “Considering these issues, it is left to the discretion of students whether to seek admission to the college. The NCTE recognition and the Kuvempu University affiliation will remain subject to the court’s final order,” the Registrar said.Earlier, students of the college had faced difficulty obtaining their certificates and marks cards.
