Every year on their wedding anniversary, Emily and Robert Toole sit down together and ask each other a very important question — should they continue living in Switzerland or return to the United States?
Each time, without fail, they decide to stay put.
“We’re happy,” says Emily. “We’re settled. We have a great family … Thus far it’s been a great adventure.”
Emily and Robert, both originally from Connecticut, relocated to the country famous for its watches, cheeses, chocolate and mountains more than a decade ago.
But immersion into a new culture comes with its challenges, and adjusting to life in Switzerland took some time. In fact, the first year was “horrible,” according to Emily.
