AWS and DuckLabs have been working together since 2024.

Amazon is acquiring Amsterdam-based DuckLabs, the company behind the open source analytical database DuckDB.

Details of the transaction were not disclosed, however, DuckDB is not included in the acquisition and will remain free and open source under the independent non-profit that oversees the project, the company clarified.

The company’s team of more than 30 employees are set to join Amazon Web Services (AWS), while co-founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt are expected to continue leading the team and DuckDB’s technical direction, alongside working on data lakehouse DuckLake and the Quack protocol.
