Arkansas Baptist College President William Walker Jr. was terminated for unspecified reasons Monday after being placed on leave last week while undergoing a review, The Arkansas Times reported.
“The recommendation was made to terminate him, which was affirmed by the board,” trustee Gene McKissic told the news outlet. “Mr. Walker was given a series of concerns and the opportunity to address those, so he knows why he was terminated. He was there during our four-and-a-half-hour meeting. But I’m not going to get into the whys. There are a lot of areas that need to be cleaned up on the campus, and we are putting the right people in place to address those concerns.”
The board hired Walker to lead the historically Black college in Little Rock last October after a brief stint as interim president. In a lengthy statement posted on Facebook, Walker noted that the college had made “measurable progress” under his leadership, even as it “operated under self-imposed financial exigency, completed outstanding audits, addressed significant campus needs, and prepared for the Higher Learning Commission's Show-Cause process.”
