An air defense battery operated by Greek military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia thwarted a new drone attack early Thursday morning, according to an informal security briefing.
The Patriot battery launched three missiles against “a number of hostile Unmanned Aerial Vehicles,” the sources said, adding the targets were shot down jointly with the air defense systems of Saudi Arabia.
Thursday’s interception was the fourth time that Greek personnel had operated the system, with the three previous ones taking place in July.
On July 25, the battery successfully shot down two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), on two separate occasions in the Yanbu region, which allegedly came from Yemen.
Exactly one week earlier, the Patriot battery had also shot down two ballistic missiles originating from Yemen.
