Greece is lagging other European countries in fiber optic Internet connections but is racing to catch up.
A recent study by UK-based broadband market intelligence firm Point Topic shows that Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscribers in Greece are expected to grow at a 20.8% annual average from 2025-2030, against a 7% average in 31 European countries studied. This will be the second fastest pace in Europe, behind Austria’s 22.5%; Belgium and Germany will also post double-digit growth. Across Europe, total FTTH subscriptions will grow from 112.4 million in 2025 to 157.4 million in 2030.
In Greece, active FTTH lines correspond to 23.5% of all broadband connections, up from 14.2% at the end of 2024. The use of vouchers to subsidize such connections and increasing competition among service providers are behind this increase.
