—Brazil’s mid-month inflation gauge, the IPCA-15, fell 0.40 percent in August, the first monthly deflation of 2026, against a 0.31 percent consensus decline.
—Residential electricity fell 6.25 percent, the biggest drop since January 2025, knocking 0.26 percentage point off the monthly index.
—The cause is the Itaipú bonus: R$872 million, about US$170 million, approved by regulator Aneel and credited on bills issued between 1 and 31 August.
