The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited said it has successfully recovered abandoned power equipment worth billions of naira from various seaports across the country, following an intervention by the Nigerian Ports Authority.
NDPHC said in a statement that the recovery had prevented significant financial losses and preserved critical assets that could support the delivery of power infrastructure projects across the country.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this when the management of the company paid a courtesy visit to the NPA at its headquarters in Marina, Lagos.
The development is significant for Nigeria’s electricity sector, which continues to contend with ageing infrastructure, inadequate investment and bottlenecks across the generation, transmission and distribution segments, limiting the reliability of electricity supply to homes and businesses.
The recovered equipment had been stranded at Nigerian ports for years. Earlier in March, NDPHC said that it had initiated the recovery of 110 abandoned containers and 216 packages of critical power equipment that had remained at the ports for nearly a decade.
