The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has called off its week-long agitation at the Pondicherry University campus to press for various demands of students.The members withdrew the agitation after a team from PU administration held talks with protesting students. Later a delegation, led by Dean of Students Welfare Y. Venkata Rao and Deputy Registrar, Public Relations K. Mahesh, handed over a letter containing written assurances to ABVP unit president Surya Saravanan.The university has assured the students to install RO plants at the reading room and the Science and Management blocks within three months. The institute would request the Puducherry government to operate more free buses to the college for the benefit of local students. The wardens of the hostels would be asked to dine in the hostel mess regularly to help in the assessment of the quality of food supplied, Mr. Mahesh said.Assurances were given to the students on improving infrastructure, health centre and sports facilities inside the campus.
