Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) continued with their indefinite protest for the third consecutive day on Sunday, demanding accountability and transparency on mismanagement and misutilisation of funds, and action on long-pending students’ issues in Pondicherry University.The agitation began on August 20 and on Saturday, the students observed a ‘Black Day’ protest outside the Administrative Block. Though the Registrar arrived at the site following the protest, according to ABVP representatives, he refused to receive their memorandum of demands.Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Surya Saravanan, president of ABVP, Pondicherry University, and Deepan, National Executive Council Member, ABVP, said the Registrar and the Dean had informed the students that they would convey the matter to the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) and inform them on whether he was willing to meet them. Instead, both the officials and the V-C quietly exited the Administrative Block without informing the students of any outcome or decision.“The university has shown that it has no interest in resolving a single demand, whether it is transparency on the V-C’s expenditure or the basic infrastructure and research resources students and scholars have been demanding for months,” Surya Saravanan said.
