Three bags of liquor in unclaimed bags were seized by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Crime Intelligence Branch of Mysuru Railway Division on Vasco-da-Gama-Yesvantpur Express on Tuesday.A statement here said that the RPF and Crime Intelligence Branch were carrying out checks on the train as part of the ongoing operation SATARK when three unclaimed bags suspected to contain liquor were detected.The bags were subsequently handed over to the concerned authorities for further necessary action. “On examination, the bags were found to contain 23 bottles/pouches of different liquor brands, totalling approximately 12.26 litres, with an estimated value of ₹10,975,” said a press statement issued on Wednesday.The seized liquor was handed over to the Excise Department, Davanagere, in accordance with the prescribed procedures. The Excise Department has taken further necessary action in the matter.South Western Railway continues to maintain strict vigilance against the illegal transportation of liquor and other contraband through trains and railway premises, the statement said while advising passengers against carrying or transporting prohibited items and to cooperate with security and enforcement agencies during checks.“The operation highlights the continued efforts of RPF and other concerned agencies of Mysuru Division to ensure safe and secure railway travel and curb the illegal transportation of contraband through the railway network,” the statement added.
