The Choolaimedu police arrested a 28-year-old electrician for threatening a 31-year-old woman by posting her photographs on social media and issuing death threats.The police said the woman, who is divorced and lives with her family, had been acquainted with the accused, Ameer Suhail, for the past four years. However, she had stopped all communication with him. According to the complaint, Suhail allegedly pressured her to marry him and threatened to upload photographs taken during their association on Instagram. Even after learning that the woman had remarried, he allegedly continued to harass and threaten her. On August 24, he allegedly uploaded her photograph on Instagram and issued death threats.Based on her complaint, the Choolaimedu police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and the Information Technology Act. The police arrested Suhail, of Villupuram district, on Monday and seized the mobile phone allegedly used in the offence. Published - August 26, 2026 06:47 pm IST
