Timothy X. Brown has been named the next director of Carnegie Mellon University Africa, effective immediately. Brown is currently serving as interim director of the College of Engineering location in Kigali, Rwanda. He is also a professor of engineering and public policy at Carnegie Mellon University.

“Tim is an accomplished educator and researcher with a deep and demonstrated commitment to CMU-Africa. I look forward to his leadership as we work toward our shared pan-African mission,” said Burcu Akinci, dean of the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

CMU-Africa offers graduate degrees in information technology, electrical and computer engineering, and engineering artificial intelligence through the College of Engineering. The location has over 320 students and more than 1,000 alumni who are making an impact across the African continent.
