Carnegie Mellon University has named Vijayakumar (Kumar) Bhagavatula, professor of electrical and computer engineering, interim dean of the College of Engineering. He will assume the duties of interim dean on June 6, 2025.

“Kumar will ensure leadership continuity as we launch and conduct a search for the next dean,” said Jim Garrett, provost and chief academic officer, in an email announce to the CMU community in January.

Bhagavatula has an extensive leadership background, having served as director of CMU-Africa from January 2018 - December 2021, interim vice provost for research at Carnegie Mellon University from April 2017 - December 2017, and associate dean for the College of Engineering from September 2010 - March 2017.
