Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has been called to provide evidence of his allegations against judicial officers.

Judiciary NPO Judges Matter has warned that Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is tainting the justice system’s reputation by making damaging allegations against its officers, without immediately furnishing the authorities with evidence.

The warning is a reaction to the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner’s allegations in Parliament on August 19 that some judges, magistrates, defence lawyers and prosecutors were collaborating with criminal gangs.

Mkhwanazi did not mention the names of the officers although he said he knew who they were.

Judges Matter joined the Legal Practice Council (LPC) in calling for Mkhwanazi, who is also the Organised Crime Task Team’s national head, to provide evidence.
