Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has backed Dimpane’s appointment, saying her integrity, competence and professionalism were among the factors considered by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has defended Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, saying she has an “untainted record of public service” and played no role in the awarding of the controversial Medicare24 Tshwane District contract.
Cachalia said Dimpane only became involved in the contract after the Audit Committee had identified irregular expenditure and that she subsequently stopped payments, ensured the expenditure was recorded and advocated for a forensic investigation.
He was responding to questions from National Council of Provinces (NCOP) delegates on Tuesday about Dimpane’s appointment, her security clearance and whether she was a fit and proper person to serve as acting national commissioner.
Cachalia said Dimpane had been vetted and held a top-secret security clearance valid until July 30, 2029.
