TORONTO — A new mural adorned the wall outside the Blue Jays’ home clubhouse Tuesday. The old one, featuring key moments from the club’s 2025 World Series run, was torn down after the early-August trade deadline. Floor-to-wall photos of a screaming Kevin Gausman and celebrating Jeff Hoffman are now replaced with those of Brandon Valenzuela and José Soriano.The previous version of the 2026 Jays couldn’t get it done, so they were broken up. These Jays, with one of baseball’s softest remaining schedules, have 29 games to determine if the new mural will survive into October.“Everybody’s got to play well,” Max Scherzer said.Toronto entered Tuesday with the second-easiest remaining schedule in MLB. Only the Seattle Mariners (.444) have a lower remaining opponent win percentage than the Jays’ (.464). They have remaining series against the Mariners, Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, five teams right in the third Wild-Card race with Toronto. Beat those teams and a postseason spot is up for grabs. Lose, and it’s over.The Jays also entered the home stand four games below .500 and received another injury blow with Shane Bieber’s trip to the IL. They left the series opener, a messy 5-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals, 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot. There is real hope of a postseason push, with the disgusting state of the American League leaving the door open for any team that dares to play well.
