Tension prevails in Kansapuram near Srivilliputtur since Tuesday (August 25, 2026) night following a clash between two caste groups.While an armed gang inflicted serious cut injuries on a father and his son at Mangammalkoil Street, in retaliation, about 20 bikes, three autorickshaws were damaged by the supporters of the injured.Senior police officers, including Inspector General of Police (South Zone), Vijayendra Bidari, are camping at the spot amidst deployment of a huge posse of policemen.The police said that an armed gang barged into a house and hacked one S. Ganesapandian with lethal weapons including machetes and knives around 10.30 p.m. Alerted by the screams of his father, Gautham (21) tried to rescue Ganesapandian. The perpetrators attacked him also.When local people gathered around, the assailants fled from the scene threatening them with dire consequences. The injured were rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital. Later they were taken to a private hospital in Madurai.Koomapatti police have registered a case of attempt to murder against five persons including K. Muniyasamy, B. Muniyasamy, R. Kannapiran. Meanwhile, the supporters of the injured persons went on a rampage in Kaliammankoil Street where the people belonging to the other group live.They damaged 20 bikes, three autorickshaws, a car and tiled roof of two houses in the early hours of Wednesday.
