Last year, Dreame Technology announced plans to enter the luxury electric vehicle market, with its first model due to reach the market in 2027. At one point, the company employed nearly 1,000 people in its new automotive division and even considered an EV plant in Brandenburg. However, if recent reports prove accurate, those plans have now come to an abrupt end. Earlier this year, Dreame presented the Nebula 1 electric supercar at CES in Las Vegas. On 27 April, it followed up with the so-called Rocket Car, a further development of the CES concept featuring additional rocket propulsion.
However, according to Chinese media reports, Dreame has apparently decided to abandon its automotive project. The company has since reduced the division’s workforce to just a few dozen employees. According to Car News China, the remaining staff are solely responsible for ‘winding down operations, handling supplier debts, and processing the legal annulment of the related companies.’ Insiders claim that Dreame primarily used the automotive project as a marketing and fundraising exercise from the outset. The company has not officially commented on the future of its automotive division.
Dreame specialises in high-performance smart vacuum cleaners and robots, with expertise in high-speed motors, AI algorithms, robotic sensors and control systems. Its latest motor technology, which reaches up to 200,000 rpm and is currently used in the Z50 vacuum cleaner, was also intended for the company’s planned luxury electric vehicle.
