There is no evidence that the saint himself ever specialized in finding lost objects – his hagiography is limited to an account of his martyrdom during the Roman era – yet tradition credits “fanouropita” with the power to reveal what has been lost or what one hopes will appear. Even skeptics may make one for good luck.
This traditional fasting cake, customarily made with an odd number of ingredients – seven, nine or 11 – is blessed and then shared with those attending church, as well as with family and friends. It is light and delicious.
