Stanford Center Korea is winding down operations at Incheon Global Campus in Songdo, with all research activities set to end this year because of budgetary and operational challenges. The center opened in June 2021 and focused on smart city research spanning urban technology, sustainability, health care and social equity. Its closure raises questions over public funding, intellectual property rights and how IFEZ manages partnerships with foreign institutions.

Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) houses the international campuses of top foreign educational and research institutions. Host to international colleges such as SUNY Korea – Stony Brook University, University of Utah Asia campus, George Mason University and top research centers, Incheon Global Campus (IGC) in Songdo has been linked with the rise of a more global Korea.
Recently, however, Stanford Center Korea said all research activities will conclude this year there as it gradually winds down operations due to budgetary and operational challenges. The center, which opened in June 2021, was engaged in "smart city" research projects on issues ranging from urban technology and sustainability to health care and social equity, serving as an academic bridge between the U.S. Silicon Valley and Korea.
