Greece is becoming a destination for pensioners from Europe and the US who seek to reside for at least the majority of the year in a cheap – to them –country offering tax incentives.
According to data provided by real estate brokers Elxis-At Home In Greece, which specializes in selling properties to foreign buyers, 30.8% of their clients seek to stay permanently, or for most of the time in Greece.
“This is a significant percentage, and also a very positive development, since (the clients’) investments have a high added value.
They do not limit themselves to buying a property, but continue to contribute to the economy as new (long-term) residents,” says George Gavriilidis, head of Elxis’ legal department.
The long-term residence plans also explain that 71.7% prefer newly-built houses and only 17.2% are interested in apartments. “As for their average budget ... we see that most put it at between €320,000-€340,000,” Gavriilidis says.
