An adorable photograph shows a group of chicks peeking out from underneath their doting mother's wing.The Pheasant-tailed jacanas tuck their chicks underneath their wings to protect them from danger, as well as sheltering them from rain or harsh weather.The birds are known for their elongated toes and nails that allow them to walk on floating vegetation in shallow water.For this, the birds have also been nicknamed the 'Jesus bird' for appearing to walk on water.They feed on small insects and invertebrates that inhabit the ponds where they usually live.Female jacanas are polyandrous, meaning a single female mates with and maintains a harem of multiple males.Males ordinarily take care of the majority of child-rearing duties, including building the nest, incubating the eggs and raising the chicks.
