The ANPD (Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority) fined ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, R$153.7 million ($30 million) in an administrative proceeding that investigated irregularities in the processing of children’s and teenagers’ data. The penalty was published in the Diário Oficial da União on Tuesday (25) and includes an order to delete data collected improperly. The company will also have to implement a compliance plan to improve the protection of children and teenagers.

TikTok said in a statement that it is assessing the measures available in response to the sanction. The platform says it has been in dialogue with the ANPD for five years about the safety of children and teenagers, which it calls "TikTok’s absolute priority," and that this resulted in the plan submitted by the company and approved by the agency in 2025. According to the company, the fine refers to a "period prior to 2021 and does not reflect the actions set out in that plan or the measures voluntarily implemented since then."
