Michael Reaves / Getty ImagesBy The Athletic StaffAug. 25, 2026 5:51 pm EDT Updated Enes Kanter Freedom, a former NBA player who has recently gained notoriety for his vocal opposition to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, has been banned by the Chicago Sky after an in-game verbal altercation with a Sky player.Michael Alter, the Sky’s majority owner, announced Tuesday that Freedom would be barred from attending Sky games following his behavior at Sunday’s game between Chicago and the Indiana Fever.Freedom, wearing a shirt that said “WOMAN noun adult human female,” sat courtside at Wintrust Arena and argued with Sky guard Natasha Cloud after the veteran guard approached him during a third-quarter timeout.“As far as a lifetime ban, if someday he’s able to demonstrate he’s capable of being at a game and conducting himself in compliance with our rules and not be a threat to people, might we reconsider?” Alter said. “I suppose it’s possible.”Alter said he has not spoken to the league about whether it plans to ban Freedom from other WNBA arenas.This story will be updated.Aug 25, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern.
