DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has described the ANC’s promises to fix municipalities within 100 days as “implausible” and lacking integrity, saying the governing party cannot be trusted to fix what it has broken.
The comments come a day after ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the party’s local government election manifesto at Riverside Park near Diepsloot in Johannesburg, outlining a six-point plan ahead of the November 4 local government elections.
The ANC and DA govern together nationally as members of the Government of National Unity (GNU), but remain political rivals and are campaigning against each other ahead of the elections.
Ramaphosa’s manifesto focuses on improving basic services, strengthening municipal finances and accountability, supporting local economic development and professionalising local government.
