Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Canada announced retaliatory tariffs against the United States on Tuesday, matching "dollar for dollar" the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Saturday after the two sides failed to reach an agreement.
The new tariffs include more than 700 U.S. products and are valued at about $20 billion, which is about the size of Trump's latest tariffs on Canadian goods.
The Canadian tariffs range from 15% to 50% and include steel and aluminum, dairy, seafood, appliances, wood and paper products, and clothing. The metals and wood tariffs are in response to U.S. tariffs on steel, aluminum and lumber.
The new tariffs will take effect on Sept. 8. Canada also announced a $7.5 billion package to help businesses and workers hurt by the U.S. tariffs.
