The United States has formally rescinded Syria’s designation as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism,” ending the country’s 47-year inclusion on the U.S. terrorism blacklist.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision in a post on X on Monday night, saying the move would create new opportunities for Syria’s economic recovery.

Rubio said, “Today, I formally rescinded Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

“This action unlocks new potential for Syria’s economic revitalisation and progress.
