Mayoral Committee Member Zahid Badroodien examines an excavated site between homes and sanitation facilities to highlight the urgent need for safe, accessible sewer pipe repairs.
The City of Cape Town has initiated urgent infrastructure repairs to address major sewer pipe collapses impacting sanitation services across Khayelitsha.
Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, said: “These sewer collapses are affecting critical infrastructure that serves communities across Khayelitsha.”
Badroodien acknowledged the challenges relocations pose for impacted residents, emphasising that moving is essential to grant maintenance teams secure access to damaged areas and enable repairs to be effected.
The City urged residents to avoid construction over service points and pipeline zones.
