HyderabadTransport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana government was taking steps to ensure that fee reimbursement was released before the beginning of every academic year so that poor students did not face difficulties in pursuing higher education.Speaking to the media at Perkapalli in Saidapur mandal, as part of the “Palle Palleku Ponnam Prabhakar – Palle Pallalo Praja Palana” programme on Tuesday, the Minister alleged that the previous BRS government in Telangana and the BJP-led government at the Centre had failed to address students’ fee reimbursement problems. He said the Congress government, after assuming office, had cleared pending fee reimbursement dues and introduced a system of making advance payments to prevent students from facing difficulties in the future. The government was also paying the old dues in phases, he said. The Minister alleged that some leaders were using the fee reimbursement issue for political criticism merely to retain their political relevance. He asked the BJP leaders criticising Rahul Gandhi whether similar free education or fee reimbursement schemes were being implemented in the States ruled by the BJP.Mr. Prabhakar also accused the BJP-led Centre of being unfair to Telangana in the matter of funds and the State’s rights. He said Opposition leaders should question the Centre on issues affecting Telangana’s interests instead of criticising the Congress government for internal political gains.
