Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) regional chairperson and Tshwane caucus chairperson Grandi Tienessen has resigned from the party and joined the Democratic Alliance, citing disagreements with the party’s national leadership and its handling of internal matters.

Tienessen made the announcement in Pretoria on Tuesday, alongside senior DA leaders, including Federal Council chairperson Ashok Sarupen and Tshwane mayoral candidate Sola Brink.

The move comes ahead of the local government elections scheduled for November 4, 2026.

Tienessen has been a member of the VF Plus since 1994 and said he was in the number two position on the party’s Tshwane candidate list.
