Einride and Lidl have been working together to electrify logistics in Sweden since 2020, with their cooperation so far focused mainly on the greater Stockholm area. The partners are now expanding operations to Värmland, Östergötland, Mälardalen and Dalarna, as well as parts of Västergötland and Småland. As a result, the annual distance covered by Einride’s battery-electric trucks for Lidl could increase from 474,000 to 832,000 kilometres, a rise of 76 per cent. The operational profile is also changing, with the trucks moving beyond regional deliveries around Stockholm to longer routes.

Einride manages the transports through its Freight Capacity as a Service (FCaaS) model. The Swedish company combines battery-electric trucks and charging infrastructure with its AI-based planning and optimisation platform, Saga AI. The software uses operational and customer data to optimise vehicle requirements and energy consumption, with the aim of reducing transport costs.

“Since we started working with them in Stockholm, we’ve seen that electric transport can be both operationally efficient and cost-competitive,” said Rasmus Laursen, Head of Logistics at Lidl SE. “This expansion lets us bring that same model to more regions and it is a clear step forward in our commitment to sustainable supply chains.”
