Grade 12 learner gives birth in school toilet as teachers race to save mother, baby

The young mother gave birth in the school toilet.

The Eastern Cape Education Department has commended teachers who jumped into action when a Grade 12 learner gave birth in the school’s toilet during teaching hours.

The teachers from Bizana Village High School, in the Alfred Nzo East District, managed to save the life of the learner and the newborn baby.

The Head of Department, Sharon Maasdorp, said reports stated the teachers were immediately alert and swiftly responded to assist the learner.

The newborn baby and the learner were admitted to the local hospital for medical attention.
