On the eve of Washington’s new phase of economic pressure against the Islamic Republic, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran is trapped in an “economic and military death spiral”, emphasizing that the United States is winning against everyone, including Iran.
On Monday, August 24, Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social: “The spirit in our country has never been higher. We are winning against everyone, including Iran, whose country is in an economic and military death spiral.”
Hours earlier, he wrote in another post: “Iran is completely collapsing.”
The U.S. President had previously announced “crushing” economic pressure against Iran. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also announced in an article published in the Financial Times on Monday that Washington was entering a new phase of economic pressure against the Islamic Republic. Bessent stated that after Iran’s military capabilities were dramatically degraded and its nuclear program weakened, the U.S. has now initiated the final phase of pressure.
Bessent also warned countries maintaining trade and financial relations with Iran that they must choose between continuing cooperation with Tehran and maintaining access to the United States and the global financial system. He stated that the policy’s objective is to sever the Islamic Republic’s economic lifelines and achieve Tehran’s complete isolation.
