MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) fined an online gambling company linked to celebrity Ivana Alawi P1 million over a cellphone giveaway and ordered it to stop the promotion, Chairperson Alejandro Tengco said Monday.
During the House of Representatives committee on appropriations’ hearing on Pagcor’s budget for 2027, Kamanggagawa party-list Rep. Elijah Fernando sounded the alarm over the increasing number of content creators and influencers promoting online gambling.
He cited Alawi’s recent giveaway of 100 high-end cellphones. To qualify for the giveaway, interested participants had to like the gambling platform’s Facebook page.
In a video posted on her Facebook page last July 15, Alawi said the purchase of 100 high-end phones amounted to over P4 million. She then thanked the online gambling company she endorses, which she said helped in buying the cellphones.
