The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has ordered casinos and other gaming operators to vet players more closely, especially public officials and government employees, to help curb corruption risks.

The state-run gaming agency has outlined “red flag indicators” that can serve as warning signs in a customer’s profile, behavior or transactions that may suggest a higher risk of money laundering and corruption-linked abuse of casinos.

In congressional inquiries into anomalous flood control projects, lawmakers found that several former public works officials had incurred losses of more P950 million in casinos out of total transactions exceeding P1 billion.

In September last year, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said a district engineer and a “minor functionary” in the Department of Public Works and Highways in Bulacan lost more than P300 million each in casinos.
