One day after the drubbing of the season, it was the Seattle Mariners doing the trouncing. More specifically, it was Cal Raleigh, who had the best game of his year in Seattle’s 9-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. So much so that the Mariners allegedly ran out of fireworks after Raleigh bashed three home runs, two of which came off of Zack Wheeler.Just like that, the Mariners catcher, marred in a career-worst season, improved upon nearly every metric after going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a walk. The runner-up to last year’s American League MVP award improved his season-long wRC+ to 83 (up from 73) and his slash line went from .159/.275/.304 (.579 OPS) to .167/.282/.336 (.618 OPS).It was the first three-homer game of Raleigh’s career, and also the first time a player homered three times at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park. Not since Edgar Martínez in 1999 had a Mariner gone deep three times in a single home game.“I had never done that before at any level, so hard to fathom,” Raleigh said. “It was a fun night.”
