Twenty-three of 25 people arrested following unrest at a migrant detention center in Serres, northern Greece, have been remanded in custody and are due to stand trial starting Wednesday.
The defendants, all identified as nationals of Bangladesh and Egypt, face multiple charges, including attempted escape, escape, mutiny and property damage.
Police said the unrest broke out shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at the facility in Klidi, in the municipality of Sintiki near the Greek-Bulgarian border.
Detainees threw stones and other objects at police and damaged the facility and its perimeter fence. Some cut through the wire fencing and escaped. Police said 15 remained at large, with searches continuing.
